Stockton is located approximately 25 miles southwest of the Sierra Nevada foothills and is home to more than 300,000 residents. The surrounding terrain consists of orchard land and flat, irrigated farms near sea level on the delta formed by the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers. This diverse community offers a lower cost of living than other California metro areas. However, you still have convenient access to San Jose, Sacramento and San Francisco for job opportunities.
People also come here because of the Miracle Mile, its popular retail and restaurant district. This one-mile long shopping district runs along Pacific Avenue and functions as a local dynamic entertainment and dining area. Highlights in this district include the Valley Brewing Co. that's home to a weekly jazz club, the Centrale Kitchen and Bar where you can enjoy upscale dining, and a local hipster hangout known as the Empresso Coffeehouse. It also has several clothing boutiques and antique stores.
Since Stockton is situated in northern California, it’s surrounded by vineyards and farms. As such, residents benefit from farm-to-table organic produce. Because of its inland port with access to the San Francisco Bay, Stockton functions as a transportation, agricultural and distribution center. Additionally, its strategic location at the crossroads of important east-west and north-south roads offers commercial benefits in the industrial sector.
Two minor-league sports teams make their home at the downtown waterfront district. The arena ballpark also serves as a concert venue and has a hotel with outdoor billiards, ping pong and a bar. For classic movie nights and concerts, check out the Bob Hope Theatre downtown.
If you have a taste for legendary homemade tortillas, dine at Nena’s Mexican Restaurant, located at the Waterfront Warehouse on the south shore. For a dose of culture, visit the Stockton Symphony or the Haggin Museum. The latter has works by masters such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Paul Gauguin on display.
The Mediterranean climate of this central valley region is characterized by warm days and moderate, cool nights with clear skies. Winters have frequent valley fog, relatively light rain and mild temperatures. The foggy periods can last up to 5 weeks. While most of the precipitation falls in the winter, there’s virtually no snow.
On average, Stockton has 39 days with precipitation annually and a total of 16 inches of rain in that time frame. This city sees 257 sunny days per year and has a July high temperature of approximately 93 degrees. January lows average 38 degrees for a comfortable climate year-round.
